March Message from the Chair

Hi Fellow Members of the Yellow and Black Army,

The season is fast approaching and our senior teams are gearing up with several practice matches to refine and practice their team work and game plans. The past weekend we hosted both Caroline Springs and Geelong – both days were fast and furious and challenged the players, especially in the hot conditions. Well done everyone on giving it your best. Good luck with the games in the next couple of weeks.

The delivery of our senior uniforms is not far away – we are looking forward to being able to unveil our new image.

It is very exciting to announce that one of our long term supporters and sponsors Werribee Mitsubishi has increased their commitment to the Club signing on for a significant five year sponsorship which will see their logo being worn by every playing member of the Club. Werribee Mitsubishi has long standing connections with the Club and have always been loyal supporters.

The Hopkins Boys – Brad (Dealer Principal), Dean and Adam – are an integral part of both Werribee Mitsubishi and Werribee Hockey Club teams. Sam Huxtable, member of Men’s 1st, is also a member of the team. So you will definitely feel at home there.

We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support and encourage all WHC families who are on the look out for a new or used car to give Werribee Mitsubishi the opportunity to provide you with a very competitive quote. Not only will you get great service, competitive pricing the Club will get a spotter’s fee for every car sold to members and family of the Club.

See why so many customers choose Werribee Mitsubishi.

Keep an eye out on our social media sites for special deals and sales.

We have been extremely fortunate to attract a Silent Sponsor for the Club. This very generous partner has kindly sponsored the Club to the extent of $12,000 for the 2019 season. The fact that we have had this sponsorship has enabled us to continue over the summer season when we have very little revenue coming into the Club. Monies from this sponsorship has ensured that we have not had to dip into our Investment Account that is set aside for capital development – such as contributing to a second field and for items such as Technical Officials Bench. We sincerely thank this very generous partner for the contribution to the Club and appreciate the substantial donation.

Thanks to Tim Pickersgill and his team of helpers who have run the summer comp – these evenings were lots of fun and gave both new and returning players the opportunity to enjoy playing hockey in a fun, social environment. Thanks Pickers.

Our junior teams are beginning their 2019 campaign with training starting in preparation for the season that begins on May 3rd. We look forward to seeing the development of these youngsters and them developing a love of the game that can provide so many opportunities for all. For any info on junior/youth teams contact youth.whc@outlook.com

On Tuesday evenings – 5:30pm Casey Tunstall, is leading a group of our young coaches conduct our Hook in 2 Hockey sessions – we have about 50 kids who are developing their skills and getting ready to move onto Game On in term 2. Any child 10 and under is most welcome to come on down and join in the sessions.

It is important that we develop not only our playing members but our officials – the Club requires several accredited coaches, umpires and technical officials to satisfy the requirements of HV as we move towards being a Premier League Club. Currently Hockey Victoria have published a number of workshops, which form part of the accreditation process. Go to http://www.hockeyvictoria.org.au/Education/Workshops

Speak to your section leader if you are interested in pursuing any of these accreditations.

Bec Boyd has kindly offered to take on the role of Inclusion Officer for the Club – she will be looking for people to assist in the running of our special days (women’s and men’s round and Fair Go Sports day, to be known as Pride Round in 2019) throughout the year. Ensure you lend her a hand and support these important days.

Our Social Committee are meeting soon to outline a very exciting off field program for the Club – stay tuned!

You will see that work has begun on the installation of our Tech Bench – will hopefully will be complete by the start of the season. We have a great opportunity for a Club sponsor to get naming rights to this – this would need to be a minimum of a three year pledge of a significant dollar amount. Please contact Adrian Hillyer or me if you have any leads on this one.

Have you applied for your United Petrol card (they do take a while to come)

United Petroleum – this gives you a 2c discount on any fuel purchased and a 2c donation to the Club. Sign up at: http://new.unitedpetroleum.com.au/upsportscommunity/ Make sure you choose Werribee HC in the drop down list of clubs.

We continue to be very busy getting the season ready to role. This requires many hands and thus we would love to see that every member of the Club has an active off field role as well. We need simple help – like a few hours helping in the canteen, tidying up the areas around the field, letter box dropping of fliers, cooking BBQ’s, cleaning out the shed, putting out bins on a Thursday evening and bringing them in on a Friday, selling special effort tickets on home rounds, collecting/donating special effort prizes, etc. etc. – we need each and everyone of you involved to ensure that Werribee Hockey Club is the sporting club of choice in Wyndham.

What are you going to do to help “Maintain the Roar”?

Lyn Tout
